About Us
In 1884, The Chase City Clipper began serving the citizens
of Chase City and the surrounding area. Four years later, the paper
was purchased and renamed the Chase City Progress. Over the years,
the paper has expanded and today-as the Mecklenburg News Progress-
the paper covers Mecklenburg County, Virginia, and the surrounding
areas. Communities covered by the News Progress include Chase City,
Clarksville, Boydton, South Hill, La Crosse and Brodnax. A community
paper, the News Progress features news coverage on events of area
interest including news from local governments, crime, courts, public
events, churches, social news and events as well as area schools and
sports plus features of interest from around the area.
The News Progress and its staff take great pride in being the
hometown paper and in having served Southside Virginia longer than any
other publication. Our mission is to build on that history and
tradition by continuing to serve our readers and advertisers with
complete, fair and accurate news and information they can depend on.
