The Bluestone JV boys basketball team opened their season in grand fashion on Tuesday, December 3 with a 59-25 win over Central Lunenburg at Bluestone High School. The Barons were led by the duo of EJ Jones and Trevon Tucker. Jones led all scorers with 19 points and Tucker added 16.
A slow start by both teams, and a handful of turnovers as well were quickly corrected by Bluestone as they were able to take a 14-6 lead after the first quarter. Trevon Tucker led the Barons with 6 first quarter points, two coming from an outstanding assist by Garrett Allgood. The second quarter saw the Barons settle down and really get going. They outscored the Chargers 24-9 in the second quarter to take a 38-15 lead into the half. Tucker added 6 more points in the second quarter as well as several key blocks on the defensive end of the court. EJ Jones got in the scorebook in a big way, scoring 12 of the last 15 Baron points in the quarter.
The second half was more of the same from the Barons JV team as they outscored Central 21-10 in the second half on their way to an easy season opening James River District win. Jones added 7 more points in the second half. Garrett Allgood, Koby Alexander and Trevon Tucker each added 4 points for the Barons in the second half.
The Barons played great defense throughout the game, pressing the Chargers into turnover after turnover, and taking advantage of the many turnovers by turning them into points. An all around great effort in all facets of the game has the JV boys settled in to the new season and looking to make some noise in the James River District. Next on the schedule is the first road game of the season as the Barons head to Buckingham on Tuesday, December 10. Tip time for the JV boys is 5:30 p.m.
