BMS girl's soccer defeats Martinsville 7-1 last Thursday

SKIPWITH - The Bluestone Middle School Lady Trojans played host to the Martinsville Middle School Lady Bulldogs last Thursday at Bluestone and came away with a big 7-1 win.

Sixth grader Katlyn Abernathy scored the first goal of the match for Bluestone in the 21st minute of the match on an assist from seventh grader Brianna Wells.

The rest of the half was scoreless as the home team led 1-0 at intermission.

Bluestone increased the lead to 2-0 in the 30th minute of the second half on a goal by sixth Emma Riegert.

Martinsville cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal in the 32nd minute of the half.

Reigert scored again for the Lady Trojans in the 37th minute to build a 3-1 lead.

Bluestone was awarded a penalty kick in the 40th minute after Reigert was fouled and she was successful on the kick to give her a "Hat Trick" the match built the lead to 4-1.

Abernathy upped the score to 5-1 in the 45th minute off an assist on a throw in by eighth grader Molly Garner.

Bluestone built the lead to 6-1 when Abernathy scored again in the 52nd minute giving her a "Hat Trick" for the match.

The final goal of the match was scored in the 55th minute when Molly Garner took a long shot from the outside to make the score 7-1.

Bluestone Coach Donna Oberholtzer said that she has been very impress with the play of the young team. With only two eighth graders on the roster, the younger players have stepped up this season both offensively and defensively."

The Lady Trojans are 2-1 for the year with the win.
