A host of Baron defenders stop a Central of Lunenburg ballcarrier.

Bluestone High School’s football team fell 44-6 on the road at Central of Lunenburg on Friday in its James River District opener.

The Barons (0-3) fell behind 37-0 at halftime but broke onto the scoreboard with a 79-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Larry Bullock to receiver Jacob Walker with 4:09 remaining in the third quarter.

It was the only bright spot for the Bluestone. Lunenburg split 294 rushing yards between 10 runners and racked up 15 first downs as compared to three for the Barons. Bluestone finished with 79 offensive yards and committed 12 penalties for 76 yards.

Lunenburg fullback Daequan Lee finished with 13 rushes for 64 yards and four touchdowns. Nyjae Carter added 63 yards on seven carries, Hunter Lacks finished with 55 yards and a touchdown on five carries and T’zion Wilkerson posted 43 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.

For the Barons, Bullock completed 2-of-16 passes for 90 yards, a touchdown and an interception and rushed twice for 19 yards. Bluestone’s running game sputtered to minus-11 rushing yards on nine carries.

The Barons are on bye this week before hosting Buckingham on Friday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m.
