Dear Editor,

I attended a funeral November 19, 2016, for a friend of mine for the past 50 years, Mr. Baxter Huss of Chase City. I now he will be missed by his family and friends.

I had the privilege of playing baseball with and against him as he played for Chase City and I played for Victoria. We also went on many golf tournaments together.

I have never heard anyone say anything but praise about him.

He was excellent in all sports he played; he and I played on the same team in the Virginia State Semi-pro Baseball Playoff in Victoria in 1960. He 550 and was voted the “most outstanding player” in the tournament. We also won the tournament sponsored by the VFW in Victoria. He won the Southside Golf Tournament with about ten teams in it.

I could go on and on saying good things about Baxter. I truly loved Baxter and Johnny Farmers, as they were always together.

I can only hope that one day we can meet again. I feel as only he stepped in the next room.

With deep regrets, Charles C. Rickers Kenbridge, VA
