Gwendolyn Burton Freeman passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at the age of 89.   Mrs. Freeman was born on July 10, 1929, in Mecklenburg County, VA, to the late Fletcher Allen Burton and Selma Jones Burton.  She was a graduate of Clarksville High School and completed her education and degree at Mary Baldwin College in 1950, studying English and Social Work.  After graduating from college, Gwendolyn went into the family business working with her father, Fletcher, in his business endeavors at Planters Tobacco Warehouse, farming lands, and his real estate and accounting professions.  She worked side-by-side with her father until his death in 1968.  Gwendolyn would continue to administer these enterprises until her own death.  She was a member of Jamieson Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher to the High School class.  Her primary joy in life has always been her cherished family.

Mrs. Freeman is survived by daughter Debra Lenhart (Wayne) of Clarksville, VA; her granddaughter Magie L. Wilkerson (Michael) of Halifax, VA; her grandson Aaron Lenhart of New York.  She is further survived by her two great grandchildren, Grace Burton Wilkerson and Claire Allen Wilkerson.

The family will receive friends and loved ones in Visitation at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home on Friday May 24, 2019, from 12:30-2:00pm.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm in Oakhurst Cemetery immediately following Visitation.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.wclfh.com.
