A local man is in jail and his brother is recovering from a gunshot wound after an argument broke out between the pair.

According to reports from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy C. Hatcher was dispatched to a residence in the 9200 bock of highway 47 for a reported shooting incident. After arriving on the scene, Deputy Hatcher spoke with the victim and was told that he and his brother had gotten into an argument and his brother had shot him in the lower left leg.

The victim was transported by the Chase City Rescue Squad to VCU-CMH in South Hill for treatment of his injury, which was said to be not life threatening.

After completing his investigation, Deputy Hatcher arrested Xavier Dailey, 20, of Chase City. Dailey was transported to Meherrin River Regional Jail where a war- rant for felony assault was obtained and served. Dailey was remanded to jail.

On Thursday while on patrol on I-85, Deputy J. Burch observed a vehicle with only one working headlight. A traffic stop was conducted at the 10 mile marker, north-bound, and while approaching the vehicle, Deputy Burch detected an odor associated with marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle turned up a green plant like material was found which when field tested showed positive for marijuana.

Also found were some pills that the driver could not produce a prescription for.

Raymond Brand, 26, of Georgia, was arrested and taken to Meherrin River Regional Jail where a warrant for possession of marijuana and a warrant for possession of a Schedule I/II drug was obtained.

Brand was also found to be wanted on a felony charge in Georgia.

He was remanded to jail under no bond.

On Wednesday, Deputy J. Thomas was notified about a possible drunk driver at the intersection Tanglewood Drive and Blackridge Road in the Bracey area. Deputy Thomas arrived and while speaking with the driver detected a strong smell he associated with alcohol coming from the driver. A field sobriety test was given and Allen Tucker Jr. of Brodnax was arrested for DUI and taken to Meherrin River Regional Jail where a warrant for DUI was obtained. Tucker was then remanded to jail.
