The auditions for the first-ever South Central Fair Idol Contest were held on Friday night, September 27th. Six finalists will compete in the final competition on the opening night of the South Central Fair when the Idol winner is chosen. The contestants were scored by a panel of five judges during the auditions based on their voice quality, technique, dynamics, and stage presentation. After each performance, the judges provided their feedback to the contestants. Each of the contestants had to receive at least three “yes” votes from the judges to be eligible to move into the final Idol contest.

The finalists represent several areas throughout South Central Virginia. The Boydton contestant is Angela Skipper; the Chase City performer is Sheila Branch; the Buffalo Junction finalist is Heather Wilson; Victoria will have Jessica Bray as their contestant; Angela Brooks is the finalist from Lacrosse; and Ethan Reid will represent Red Oak in the contest. Each of the finalists will be performing two songs during the finale.

The winner of the event will receive the title of “2019 South Central Fair Idol,” the first-place trophy and a $300 award. The second runner up will receive the second runner up trophy and a $200 award while the third runner up will receive the third runner up trophy and a $100 award. The “People Choice” trophy will be presented to the contestant who receives the most votes from the audience as they purchase their $1.00 vote for their favorite contestant. If needed, the judges will break any ties.

Judges for the contest include Chase City native and former hollywood film post production artist, Beverly Wood, Nashville recording artist Tony Wray, Chase City businessman Glenn Wood and

Trisha McCargo SVCC Coordinator for the Estes Center
