A bulldozer was seriously damaged on Friday afternoon when the equipment caught fire near the intersection of Greenhouse and Estes Road outside of Chase City.

Speaking on Monday, Chief Charles Magann of the Chase City Volunteer Fire Department said that when the call first came it at around 2:40 p.m. it had been reported as a vehicle fire.  When firefighters arrived, they discovered that the “vehicle” was a bulldozer some half a mile off the road.

According to Magann, the CCVFD had an engine and a tanker on the scene with approximately nine firefighters.

The Bacon District Volunteer Fire Department was also initially dispatched to the scene but the call was cancelled before they could arrive.

Getting to the fire, said Magann, was the biggest problem and once on scene, the fire was quickly brought under control.

Although Chief Magann said the damage to the bulldozer “was extensive,” he would not provide an estimate of those damages.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
